Recultivate

Memory project

Guided by our pedagogical referent Renaud Pecheur and director Hervé Grolier and my mentor Victoire Bailleul

UX designer.

2018/19 - ISD - SERVICE DESIGN - UX/UI - MEMORY PROJECT

5 MONTHS

Problem studied: To enable sustainable harvesting in the flats, based on know-how co-developed by the users.

Aware of the food disasters of recent years, many urban consumers living in flats, like their rural neighbours, want to grow their own food. During five months, I developed a thesis and an application to simplify the permaculture technique for the urban beginner in agriculture.

The various testimonies of urban permaculture growers prove that it is possible to produce a healthy crop in one's own flat but 3 main problems arise with this solution among novices, many existing solutions, a need for experience and time leading to a loss of motivation.

I am studying the many solutions seen in permaculture, the ways to implement them. Permaculturists or farmers who are attentive to their environment avoid buying new and prefer to build to measure or over-cycle to create their growing space. This observation allowed me to question whether or not to create an object to answer my problem. An application beyond the functions we can give it can serve as a database, always growing, improving our knowledge.

Listening to my mentor and an experienced design student

I choose one of my targets, write down its user-flow through my application and create a prototype (which can be tested by clicking on the green button opposite). Finally, after a user feedback on the UX part of my application which allowed me to see if I had understood the expectations of my target, I go on to the desirability test by posing the graphic universe of my application (UI), what I want to transmit to it and create a visual that I show again.

This method makes it possible to know if your targets have the same feeling as the one you want to bring them, if it is clear enough, ect. Developing this answer allowed me to experiment more with Experiential Design (UX-UI), also capable of providing a coherent answer.

Recultivate, the application to start urban agriculture in a playful way and develop together the agriculture of tomorrow.

Recultivate, guides beginners in agriculture to harvest responsibly and adapted to the particular conditions of their flat without difficulty. But the permaculture user is also an experimenter. Following up on his results and those of other community members will help to refine and develop knowledge and know-how in order to improve the application solutions on an ongoing basis.
