The designer Maxime Paulet came to guide us during a product design workshop. The first directive of this workshop was to design a coat hook in a group until its final production. Each group had to produce a minimum of 3 items.
The goal of this workshop was to immerse us in the world of a team of designers looking for solutions to produce their object in a series production. It allowed us to experiment as a team the different phases of the creation of a product. Ideation, choice of the concept, its values, creation of a prototype, validation of the final object and its packaging, mass production, communication.
This experience has learned me to be attentive to all these phases when I draw. It has also learned me how much teamwork (composed of designers or multidisciplinary) can be beneficial for a project.
Knock'n Wood coat hook by studio CALM.
The challenge we set ourselves for the manufacture of the Knock'n Wood coat hook was to rationalise the use of good quality recyclable materials contributing to the local economy by using local craftsmen while keeping in mind that the product is still accessible. Its shape, inspired by the double hook school coat hook, consists of a steel structure and two oak pieces. This shape, which is usually present in public places, can be used in the private area (home, office) thanks to its new aesthetic, more refined and minimalist, which can be appropriated by everyone thanks to a wide range of colours.
Its packaging.
Always with the idea of rationalising but also of communicating, we optimise the use of material to pack the coat hook, give our contact details, using the graphics born from the cutting plan of the metal piece to decorate it. Finally, we place an amusing slogan to add the attractive touch to the project.
